Tackling disruption with continuous learning

The competitive landscape is bound to change and how you respond to this change is what sets you apart from your counterparts.

In 2014, Nestle Purina PetCare Company recognized changes in their retail landscape that put them at a significant disadvantage.  

Other manufacturers had capabilities that supported partnerships with retailers, capabilities that Nestle Purina PetCare Company did not possess. The relationships with these retailers helped their competitors more effectively assess the business situations as well as provide meaningful recommendations to drive sales and market share growth.

To combat this competitive advantage, Nestle Purina PetCare Company included foundational skill training that would, among other capabilities, increase their effectiveness and influence with retailers.

The SkillUP! Academy from Learning Evolution assisted Nestle Purina PetCare Company in this initiative with a blended-learning approach that includes webinars, self-paced e-learning courses, one-on-one instructor and student mentoring, and instructor-led role-play scenarios.

blended learningThe approach to the training design includes an assessment of the core foundational skill sets that the team needed to be fluent in, coupled with Learning Evolution’s flexible training format that allowed Nestle Purina PetCare Company to tailor to their needs and expectations.

The learning management system, OnPoint, is a real-time collaboration tool for student assignments and instructor feedback.

It encourages teams to work together and submit assignments as a team as this encourages additional learning. Team members are exposed to different people from different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, and they learn from each other when they collaborate on an assignment.  

Several interactive webinars are mixed in to create real-time group discussions, even when the team is spread across the country.

The final role-play exams are conducted as a group because of everyone – no matter whether you are the presenter or an observer – gains something from learning new approaches to presenting your story, visually displaying data or addressing customer concerns

Nestle Purina PetCare Company has been successful in their upskilling strategy, their team now has a competitive advantage over peers who level-set their organizations at the lower base level. The past few years has crafted a smarter, more effective and more influential team.
